I just got the Cricut Maker! I’ve been wanting a cut machine for a long time and I’m so excited to finally have one.
Here is a fun video of me unboxing it and giving some thoughts about it. (There are more thoughts under the video if you would rather read than watch.)

I went back and forth a lot on which cut machine I actually wanted. I read probably every comparison there is on the internet. (At least it felt like I did.) I finally landed on the Cricut Maker and here is why.
The Cricut Maker seems to have the most capability for crafters. While I am primarily a sewist, I also love doing a wide range of other kinds of creating. I knew that going with the Cricut Maker would probably give me the most options of what I could create. It comes with a fine point blade for your papers and vinyls. It also comes with a rotary blade so you can cut fabric! Granted, you probably won’t be sewing entire adult outfits with it, but some cute accessories are never a bad thing, right? Also, if you are a quilter, this is a huge deal. I believe it makes cutting time significantly shorter for quilting projects. There are also several simplicity patterns that you can purchase in Cricut’s design space. (Design space is their program used to layout what you will be cutting) Patterns which include stuffed animals, doll clothes, accessories and more.
You can get an attachment blade (It is not included with the Maker.) That can cut through, from my understanding, leather, and some thinner woods. How cool is that?!
If paper crafting or cutting vinyl is what I was looking to do, I probably would have gotten a more simple machine. However, I know I tend to be ambitious when it comes to projects so the extra capabilities interested me.
Sadly, the machine did not include any of the tools that are usually needed for weeding vinyl and fabric removal. Those have to be purchased separately.
I’m not going to lie, I was super intimidated by a cut machine! I’ve never had one before, and from what I heard, they seemed a little complicated to use. But Cricut includes some materials with the Maker, and walks you through your first project so you can get a little more familiar with their product, which I think is a great idea on their end. Doing their intro project made it so much easier to break into. I highly recommend doing the intro project if you ever get a Maker.
So far, I’ve done their intro project, and a couple Vinyl and heat transfer projects. I have a purse project in the idea phase and hope to get the material soon for it. I love my new cut machine and am very pleased with my purchase.
I finally have a cut machine! Yay! More projects coming soon near you. (Or as near as cyberspace can get.)
These are the things that I ended up getting:
- Cricut Maker
- Cricut tools
- Extra fabric mats (It comes with one 12×12 mat, but I wanted the 12×24 mats too.)
And soon, I will get the attachment blade for thicker materials!
Thanks for reading!
