I’ve linked to several of the items I used to make the dessert wreath for your convenience. However you can get most, if not all, of these things at the dollar store or Walmart.
Supplies Used for Dessert Wreath
- Dessert ornaments (Several small ones)
- Dessert Ornament (one large)
- 18″ wreath frame
- Silver and white deco mesh (4 rolls)
- White pipe cleaners (approximately 18 of them)
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue
- String
- Silver spray paint (optional)
- Scissors
Prepping the Dessert Wreath
It’s much easier to find green wreath frames than white in stores. However, I found that green showed through my wreath since I was using white and silver deco mesh. I had silver spray paint on hand so I just painted my wreath frame. You can do the same, or you can get a white wreath frame.
Take your pipe cleaners and use scissors to cut them in half.
Attach the pipe cleaners to the frame by twisting them on. The wreath frame has nine sections, use four pipe cleaners for each section. Alternate between the outside two rings and the middle two rings. Each section should look something like this.
When all the pipe cleaners are on the frame, it should look something like this.
Attaching the Deco Mesh
Take two rolls of deco mesh and layer one on top of the other. Since they are the same color, order doesn’t matter. Squish the end of the stacked deco mesh down and twist it onto the frame with the pipe cleaner.
Take about 10 more inches of deco mesh and squish it down and twist it onto the frame with the next pipe cleaner.
Fluff up the sections of deco mesh that were just attached to the frame. Repeat this process of attaching and fluffing all the way around the wreath frame. When you run out of deco mesh, just attach the new rolls and continue the process until the wreath is filled with deco mesh.
Once you’ve reached the end of the frame with the deco mesh, cut off any excess and tuck the ends into the wreath if necessary.
If you would like, you can go back through and clip the pipe cleaners down. I didn’t bother with that because mine weren’t visible.
Attaching the Ornaments
Get the small dessert ornaments and take off all their hanging strings. Some of my ornaments had plastic loops and I cut those off.
Spread the ornaments on top of the wreath. Play around with the placement. I suggest trying many different variations before making them permanent because once they are attached, you won’t be able to move them.
Once you have them placed where you want them, leave them there and glue them on the deco mesh, one by one, with a hot glue gun.
Finishing the Dessert Wreath
Take the large ornament and place it in the center of the wreath. If the ornaments string isn’t long enough to reach the top of the frame, you’ll need replace it with a longer one. Do this by measuring a string out to fit the length of the wreath from top to center and back creating a loop.
Tie the large ornament onto the top of the wreath frame. If it doesn’t stay in place, hot glue the string to the frame. The large ornament should now dangle freely in the center of the wreath.
Now you can hang it on your door and that’s all there is to it! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have fun making this wreath. Have a merry Christmas!
