How to Cut Earrings With the SVG
Place your faux leather face down (pretty side down) on the machine’s cutting mat.
Load the SVG into your cut machines software, “hide” the designs you don’t want to make by clicking on the Eye icon on the right hand side of the screen.
Once you have your designs selected, mirror the image and use the settings “faux leather paper thin” with regular pressure. Load the mat with the faux leather into the machine and send it to cut.
Peel the designs off the cutting mat and discard the scraps. Or if they are large enough save them for a future project.
How to Cut Earrings With the PDF
Print the PDF and cut out the earring designs you plan to use. Place the pattern pieces for your design on the back side of the faux leather and use a fabric marker to trace the design.
Once you have it traced, cut it out with scissors. Use a hole punch or leather punch to make a hole at the top of the earring for the jump ring. You’ll want the bottom of the hole about an eighth of an inch away from the top.
Assembling the Earrings (all options)
Use the jewelry pliers to open up a jump ring.
Place one earring piece and an earring hook on the jump ring. Double check that the hook is facing the right way so the earring isn’t backwards when you wear it.
Close the jump ring using the jewelry pliers.
Repeat the process for the second earring to complete your pair.
All done!
How do you make double sided faux leather earrings?
If you want the back of the earrings to match the front, you have two options for making this happen.
Option 1: Cut out four of an earring design instead of two. Glue the back sides together, then proceed to put them together following the instructions above.
Option 2: Get a heat transfer vinyl that matches the color of your faux leather and cut out two additional copies of the design.
Heat press the vinyl to the backside of the earring using an iron or a heat press. Two hundred to two hundred and fifty degrees Fahrenheit (93 -121 Celsius) for ten to fifteen seconds should be about the right heat range to set these.
Finish putting them together following the instructions above.
How do you make glitter faux leather earrings?
To make glitter faux leather earrings, you need some heat transfer glitter vinyl to add to the faux leather. Cut out two of the designs you want in faux leather, then cut two of the designs in glitter vinyl. Then using an iron or a heat press, iron the glitter vinyl onto the front side of the faux leather.
Then assemble them using the instructions above. Glitter heat transfer vinyl often needs a bit of a higher temperature than regular heat transfer vinyl. To get these to set, use a temperature of two hundred and eighty five degrees Fahrenheit (140 Celsius) for twenty seconds.
You can even double side these by putting the glitter vinyl on both sides of the faux leather.
How do I keep my faux leather earrings from turning?
Sometimes handmade earrings can turn a bit when wearing them. To help with this, use the jewelry pliers and pinch the bottom loop of the earring hook. Then twist the hook ever so gently so it faces the proper way a little more. This should help avoid having it turn the wrong way.
How do I keep my faux leather earrings from curling?
Occasionally you might notice that your faux leather doesn’t want to sit straight, it may curl in on itself a little. If that happens, grab a piece of parchment paper and a low heat iron and iron it down. Place the parchment paper on top of the faux leather before ironing. This will prevent it from melting and sticking to your iron. You can also try to spray starch the back side before ironing to help stiffen up the material.
What blade do you need to cut faux leather?
A fine point blade should do the trick. Faux leather is no where near as tough or thick as real leather so there is no need for any special blade to cut it.
