I thought it would be fun to do review of all the things that I sewed in March.
St. Patricks Day Skirt
For St. Patricks day, I obviously wanted to do something that was green. I had just gotten a mystery fabric box that had a green plaid fabric in it and I determined it was perfect to create something for the occasion. A dress was out of the question because I had less than a yard of the fabric. (Thanks scrap pack.) It ended up working perfectly for a skirt though.
The pattern I used to make the skirt was the mama Joy pattern from Made for Mermaids. They have a hack on their blog that shows you how to make it a skirt instead of a dress so that’s what I did.
Loggers
These are the loggers by Patterns for Pirates. I really like these. When I first saw the pattern I was confused about how they were different from leggings and joggers.
After making them I found that the fit was not as tight as leggings which I think makes them a little bit more comfortable, yet they still look super stylish just as joggers do. Basically they’re tighter than joggers and looser than leggings so they’re the perfect hybrid and I’m loving them!
One mistake I did make though was that I made my drawstring out of a knit fabric…. That was a bad idea. Don’t do that. I find that every time I wear them the drawstring keeps stretching out and it doesn’t have enough recovery to hold my pants up. So don’t use knit fabric for drawstrings if you want them to be functional, not just decorative.
I time lapsed the loggers, you can watch it here.
A Wild Top
This next one is the daisy blouse from Sinclair patterns. This top spoke to me because I used to have a shirt that was just like it. Unfortunately, the one I used to have was made out of a sheer fabric and since I hate layering, I ended up not wearing that shirt very often. I was a bit bummed about that shirt though because I really liked the style. However, with the daisy blouse, I can make a similar style shirt in a non sheer fabric and I’m quite happy about it!

Boho Style
This one is a little sneaky-peeky for you because I time lapsed this top, but haven’t posted it yet. However, I made it in March so that’s why I’m showing it now. It’s a really fun, flowy, boho style top that makes me feel a bit like royalty with the way it drapes. The pattern I used is the patterns for pirates boho babydoll. On the pattern the sleeve only comes to about ¾ length, but I wanted a more dramatic sleeve so I went ahead and lengthened it to be a full long sleeve.
I think it’ll be a perfect summer top because I made it out of ITY. So it’ll be nice and cool while I wear it even though it’s long sleeved.
Sporty Piko
This next top is the Sporty Piko from Patterns for Pirates. They just released this so I barely squeezed it into March. I really like this one because the style is so on point and the color combo I chose makes me happy. I thought adding a bit of faux leather to the back would be a really fun element on the shirt, and I’m totally in love with it! (Time lapse can be found here.)
Swing Dress
This is the Charleston swing dress from Annelaine patterns. I used a rayon spandex and it’s very flowy, just as a swing dress should be. It’s got a high-low hem and it has pockets.
The pockets came out lower than I feel like they should have. I followed the pattern placement for them, but it could be because rayon spandex has a tendency to grow with wear potentially distorting pocket placement. So maybe that’s just my bad in fabric choice. I don’t know. (Time lapse can be found here.)
The Summer Dress
This dress I actually self drafted… If you can call it that. I based it off of another dress that was pretty much one giant rectangle that was folded over, sewn, and had a waist tie. I think the original dress is a little bit more fitted and looks a bit nicer, but this one turned out okay. It probably just needs a little bit more experimentation to get it right. Which I’m not sure I do, so we’ll see. This one may or may not stay in my closet.
Astoria Dress
One more sneaky-peeky for you because I’m making a tutorial for a hack on this dress, and will post it soon. This is the Astoria dress from peek-a-boo patterns. I hacked it to have side drawstrings on the skirt. Last time I did this hack, it was for the Patterns for Pirates wiggle dress and everyone was like “oh my gosh how do you do that please make it tutorial”. So I am. You’re welcome. 🙂
I hope you guys enjoyed seeing everything I made in March. Keep an eye out for the skirt drawstring tutorial and the boho babydoll time lapse that are coming soon!
Thank you for reading! <3
