Traveling. Isn’t it so fun?! Oh wait. No. No it’s not. Destinations are fun! But I think I would just skip the travel time if I could. Traveling is mostly just sitting around waiting for the time to pass wearing uncomfortable clothes, and sometimes, sitting next to people who smell less than desirable or talk too much. I’ve had occasion to travel with a big group of friends and traveling is half the fun of reaching the destination. However, most of the time, we’re more likely to be traveling alone or with one or two other people.
I recently traveled to Colorado for a wedding. While I couldn’t do anything about who I sat next to on the plane, I did have some control over how comfortable my clothes were. Obviously I had to make something for my travel time!
I went with a tunic and leggings. The tunic is handmade, the leggings were not.
My thoughts behind this outfit were pretty simple. There was no way I was going to wear restrictive jeans (A.K.A. leg prisons). They might look nice and give me good shape, but they are not worth sitting in all day long. Dresses can be super comfy, but not always practical. There is always some concern of modesty for me with dresses. You know, the occasional “bend over too far and give people more than they bargained for” issue. There are a few other concerns with dresses, but I’ll spare you the details. This time…
I made the tunic shortly before my trip to Colorado. It was a really quick sew and turned out so nice. Also, I made it with a rayon spandex fabric, and since that won’t fray, I opted not to hem it. Life is too short to hem anything that you don’t want to hem! And I think it suits the fabric choice with a little grunge feel to it.
The leggings were a purchased item. Although, I wished I had made some before heading out. These ones are from a certain LLR company and they always seem to be off in fit somehow. Next time I travel, leggings will definitely be on my list to make before heading out!
I was pleased with how my tunic turned out and pleased with how it wore. It was nice to feel cute and not feel too uncomfortable while traveling!
